General Considerations: This list is prepared for you, in order to help you to find homeopathic veterinary help. The BAHVS itself cannot offer any veterinary advice, so you need to consult a member on the list for this.

This document contains two separate lists for your guidance:

1) A listing of names, addresses and telephone numbers, of those who have a veterinary homeopathic qualification, with the date on which this was obtained. 1a) VetFFHom; 1b) VetMFHom; 1c) CertIAVH.

The Faculty's 'LFHom(Vet)' is not included, since the Faculty does not expect holders of that to be at the level which would enable the taking of referrals.

2) A regional list (UK), with overlapping areas for your convenience.

These lists are not an endorsement by the BAHVS of any of the veterinary surgeons listed and do not give details of the homeopathic experience of any member nor of which species each feels competent or sufficiently experienced to handle. This information remains to be ascertained by you, by direct enquiry to the member concerned. There is, broadly speaking, more experience with dogs and cats than with horses or farm animals. The special requirements of Organic Farming will make heavy demands on any member's experience.

In the light of the awakened interest in the subject of vaccination and homeopathic alternatives, please understand that each member on these lists holds his or her own views on this complex matter. There is no corporate BAHVS policy on the subject. Enquirers are recommended to ask individual members about this in advance, if they require clarification on this topic. The same holds for dietary advice, opinions on which will vary from member to member.

If your animal has been treated by your own veterinary surgeon for the complaint, prior to your appointment for a homeopathic opinion, the homeopathic second opinion veterinary surgeon will require a veterinary history from your veterinary surgeon, along with the results of any tests carried out to date. This is an ethical requirement.

Should you be unable to use your chosen homeopathic service as your emergency veterinary practice, due to distance or lack of emergency service, it is advisable to seek a referral from your local veterinary surgeon anyway, whether or not the animal is under his/her treatment. This ensures that your local veterinary surgeon is fully aware of the treatment and is better equipped to respond appropriately to any emergency.

The BAHVS is keen to promote the ethical delivery of homeopathic medicine and strongly recommends both that the above procedures are carried out and that your animal is actually seen by the homeopathic veterinary surgeon. Postal or telephone diagnoses constitute a serious potential danger to animal welfare. The BAHVS dissociates itself from any procedure not in line with the above.

The BAHVS has a 'Code of Practice', to which its members should adhere.
